What can I expect during the first session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another and understand what brings you to therapy. We'll explore your concerns, your goals, your relationships, and the patterns you may be noticing in your life. Together, we'll begin identifying what support may be most helpful and how we can work collaboratively moving forward.

How often do we meet?

Most clients begin therapy with weekly sessions to create consistency, build momentum, and support meaningful progress. The frequency of sessions is determined collaboratively based on your needs, goals, and the nature of the work we are doing together.

How long does therapy last?

The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, the challenges you are navigating, and the depth of the work we explore together. Some clients seek support through a specific transition or challenge, while others choose longer-term therapy for continued growth and self-understanding.

How do I get started?

Beginning therapy starts with a conversation. You can reach out through the contact form, and we'll begin exploring what brings you to therapy and whether my approach feels like the right fit for your needs.

Do you offer virtual therapy sessions?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Relationship Focus provides secure telehealth sessions for clients located in New York State. Virtual therapy offers the flexibility and privacy to engage in meaningful work from the comfort of your own space.

Question 6

Do you accept insurance?

Accepted Answer

The Relationship Focus offers both insurance-based and private-pay options. Through Headway, I currently accept Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Carelon Behavioral Health, Curative, Independence Blue Cross Pennsylvania, Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey, and Cigna for eligible services. Coverage varies by plan, so I encourage you to contact your insurance provider to confirm your benefits and eligibility. Private-pay options are also available. If you have out-of-network benefits, you may be eligible for reimbursement from your insurance provider. Upon request, I can provide a superbill for you to submit directly to your insurance company.

Do you offer reduced-fee options?

I understand that therapy is an important investment, and I strive to make care accessible when possible. A limited number of reduced-fee options may be available based on availability. Please reach out to discuss whether this may be an option.

Question 8

What forms of payment do you accept?

Accepted Answer

To make the process as seamless as possible, payment is collected at the time of each session. The Relationship Focus accepts major credit and debit cards, as well as eligible Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) cards. A payment method is required on file prior to beginning therapy.

For clients with out-of-network benefits, I can provide a superbill upon request that may be submitted to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. Coverage and reimbursement vary by insurance plan, so I recommend contacting your provider directly to understand your specific benefits.

Can I Use Insurance for Couples or Family Therapy?

Couples and family therapy may be eligible for insurance coverage when treatment is focused on a diagnosed mental health condition. In these cases, one partner or family member may be identified as the Identified Patient (IP) and must have a qualifying diagnosis.

Insurance generally does not cover relationship-focused or growth-oriented therapy when there is no qualifying mental health diagnosis- for example, working solely on communication, connection, intimacy, relationship growth, parenting, or improving family relationships. If your insurance plan does not consider the service medically necessary or does not provide coverage for couples or family therapy, you will be responsible for the full session fee.

What is your cancellation policy?

I understand that unexpected circumstances arise. To honor the time reserved for your appointment and maintain consistency in the therapeutic process, I ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.

Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, as well as missed appointments, will be subject to the full scheduled session rate. This fee is not covered by insurance and is the responsibility of the client.

What types of concerns do you help with in individual therapy?

I work with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship challenges, self-esteem concerns, work-related stress, interpersonal conflicts, and the desire for deeper self-understanding. Together, we explore the patterns that shape your life, build greater capacity for connection and self-awareness, and develop more intentional ways of relating to yourself and others.

Do you work with couples who are experiencing conflict or considering separation?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Couples therapy can support partners navigating recurring conflict, communication challenges, emotional disconnection, trust issues, separation, and other significant relationship transitions. Together, we'll explore the patterns keeping you stuck, work toward repair and greater understanding, rebuild trust when possible, and clarify what each of you needs and hopes for the relationship. For couples experiencing high levels of conflict or an active relationship crisis, virtual therapy may not always be the best fit. In some situations, in-person couples therapy may provide a more supportive and appropriate setting for the work. We can discuss your circumstances and determine what level and format of support is most appropriate.

Do you work with couples after infidelity or betrayal?

Yes. Healing after betrayal requires more than simply moving forward — it requires understanding the impact of the hurt, rebuilding emotional safety, restoring trust, and creating a new foundation for connection. Using a relational approach informed by EFT and the Gottman Method, we work together to process the rupture and support meaningful repair.

Question 14

Do both partners need to attend couples therapy?

Whenever possible, couples therapy works best when both partners are actively involved in the process. Each person's perspective, experiences, and willingness to engage are important parts of creating meaningful change within the relationship. At times, I may meet with each partner individually at different points throughout the therapy process. These conversations provide space to better understand each person's story, family history, relationship experiences, and the experiences that have shaped how they connect, communicate, and respond within the relationship. Understanding each partner as a whole person allows us to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship dynamic and the patterns that may be keeping the couple stuck. These individual conversations are not about determining who is right or wrong, but about building greater compassion, insight, and connection between partners. The goal of couples therapy is to help both partners feel understood, strengthen the relationship, and create healthier ways of relating to one another.

Do you offer family therapy?

Yes. Family therapy supports families navigating challenges such as divorce and co-parenting, parent-child conflict, blended family dynamics, grief and loss, and major life transitions. The goal is to create space for each person to feel heard, understand family patterns, improve communication, and strengthen connection.
